A Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act (H.R. 133 – in effect as of January 1, 2022), health care providers must provide their clients or patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
-
What it includes:
-
An estimate of the costs for the scheduled healthcare services.
-
-
Important Note:
-
It's an estimate, not a guarantee.
-
Cost of service can depend on service type, provider etc.
-
-
How to get it:
-
You can request a GFE from your provider.
-
If you schedule an appointment at least 10 business days in advance, you'll usually receive the estimate within 3 business days.
-
-
Dispute Resolution:
-
If the actual cost significantly exceeds the GFE
-
A Good Faith Estimate is for your knowledge only. A commitment to schedule a session is NOT necessary or required.
